The cause of an empty wallet

July 15th, 2008

Quite an interesting phenomenon how although I fully realize how Tapioca Express cleans me out, I still come back. I don’t know if it’s just my James Logan senses telling me to drink to stay sane, or the atmosphere or what, but I seem to always get lured into spending too much on a plastic sealed cup with artificial flavoring.

Tapioca Express is almost turning into an addiction seeing how each time I go I end up spending over $6 on two regular sized drinks. Don’t get me wrong, the service is snappy and drinks are great and all, but like I said in a previous post, "it’s burning a whole through my wallet." Yesterday though I came across probably the best Tapioca Express location I’d ever been to. It’s the Newark location and although it’s not as fast as the Union City Tap Ex, I enjoyed the customer service very much. One of the main things that I liked about the location was that it was at least twice as big and people didn’t loiter like they do at Union City, so for the longest time it was just my cousin and I eating there. The location itself is a bit secluded, but it had an overall more comfortable environment inside (I’d say a little closer to newer "Quickly" locations).

So once again, I’m just ranting about how now I’m broke but I’m now two stamps closer to a free drink! Seriously, don’t make Tapioca Express a habit; it’s an expensive one.

How I stay entertained on weekends.

July 12th, 2008

Weekends are a drag because I’m usually located somewhere where internet isn’t reachable by me and the only thing to keep me entertained is my phone and my EEE. However, through the years I’ve managed to live through it with a bunch of simple things to pass the time (which are listed as follows).

EEE with a touch of Blue

July 12th, 2008

Well I’ve finally gotten some Bluetooth on my EEE for a fairly decent price. At Fry’s there were several different Bluetooth adaptors from all sorts of brands and I decided on one of two possible dongles. One was a fairly large dongle, about the size of an old flash drive but only $10 while the other one extremely tiny for $20. The tinier of the two looked identical to two other Bluetooth adaptors save for the branding (and pricing!) so I went for the tinier one in favor of portability.

So now I have Bluetooth on my EEE and one of my gripes are gone (except that it isn’t internal radio).

Tapioca Express

Ok, this post isn’t that serious or rash, but one thing is for certain: Tapioca Express costs too much. Yet despite that, I keep coming back for more even if I know my habit of drinking boba is burning a hole right though my wallet. Mainly it bothers me that grabbing a large milk tea (in my neighborhood) costs more than an A1 Steakhouse burger at Burger King (which by the way, is quite filling). I’m not sure what I’m trying to say except that I wish I did have such a strong dependency on boba and that if anyone wants to go Tap with me, call me up.

Bemani Heaven

Atlantis Casino & Resort really spoiled me while I was in Reno. There was IIDX, but it’s only in a video (which I’ll upload eventually).

Nothing but overpriced Wi-Fi

July 7th, 2008

So I’m sitting down here in the Silver Legacy in Reno, NV without internet. The rates are $5.99 for 60 minutes or if you want a "great deal," $9.99 will get you 24 consecutive hours of internet access. Quite frankly, I bet if I just connected using the EDGE connection on my phone, I’d have cheaper rates. I’m just amazed at the fact that they’ll charge such huge amounts for internet access and people will actually pay for it.

In any case, I’m sitting here near the casino with not much to do except to blog offline.

Cool find of the day: Sega Mega Drive Twin Player

July 1st, 2008

Time for today’s cool find of the day! For right now, I’m using Play-Asia to find cool and interesting stuff to post. The site is made up mostly of Asia imports and such that might not be for sale elsewhere (such as the states). Today I’d like to share something that will bring you back to the 90’s: The Sega Mega Drive. What’s so so special about this? Well for one thing it’s not as colossal as the original Mega Drive, but on top of that it has 20 licensed Sega games. Unlike many other TV plug-and-play systems, this miniature Sega MD will actually read your cartridges (assuming you’ve saved those heaps of plastic over the years).

Posting on an EEE

June 30th, 2008

So I haven’t been able to update this over the weekend because I’ve been busy installing suff on my EEE (and for the fact that I have limited internet access on the weekends). This thing in short is amazing. That said, it’s not without gripes, as it’s not the perfect computer (but it serves almost all I need). Number one is the thing I wouldn’t have to worry about if I had just waited for the 901 which is the absence of Bluetooth. This is really a must for me, but I didn’t feel that the added price and need to wait was worth it, so I went for the 900 instead. Second is that (until I got used to it), the keyboard insanely difficult for touch typists to adjust to, but in due time it starts feeling like any other keyboard. The last gripe is really what grinds my gears (which really isn’t as bad as it is annoying) is how, since I’m a touch typist, I got used to hitting keys fairly consistently in the same place. Unlike many keyboards which have two sensors to detect keystrokes on the spacebar, the EEE only has one in the middle and the fact that I press spacebar off in the far left makes for hit-or-miss detection. With all that said, I don’t hate this machine by any means, it’s mostly just that I need to get used to it.

EEE PC Badge

EEEarlier than EEExpected

June 26th, 2008

The Costco website said it would be “7 to 10 business days” before my EEEPC would arrive, but apparently my UPS tracking number is saying that my EEE is on it’s way to be delivered today. This is a pleasant surprise, which means I won’t have to wait several days to start using my EEE. Shipping info after the break. Continue reading »

I cleaned my room :o

June 25th, 2008

So I’ve been busy all day cleaning up my desk (which if you’ve ever seen, you’d understand why it would take all day) making room for my EEE PC (which is on it’s way). I’d love to post pics, but I’m on my horribly outdated eMachine “e monster 700k” which clocks out at only 699MHz, so I don’t want to push it too much. I’m actually really excited for my EEE to come in, although I’m hoping I don’t end up with buyer’s remorse since the 901 model is supposed to come out on the 26th. There isn’t too much I get from the 901 really: Intel Atom processor (which is actually slower in comparison with the Intel Celeron M in the 900) which yields better battery life, a 8.9″ instead of an 8.1″ screen, added bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n, and a larger touchpad. Is all of that worth waiting for? The only reason I’d wait for the 901 is to run OSx86 since the Intel Atom has better support out of the box (seeing as how the Macbook Air runs on an Intel Atom IIRC). Bluetooth I admit is a must for me, but I’d rather go out and buy a cheap $20 dongle. I seriously can’t wait for the EEE to arrive though; at the soonest, it’ll arrive Thursday of next week, so I have a little bit of time before it get into my hands. Pics when it arrives.
